An article on the
NYT website reports on an unnamed CIA analyst who has filed a federal wrongful discharge suit against the government. Apparently, this individual had received information from an informant in Iraq (in the spring of 2001) that Iraq had essentially dismantled their uranium enrichment program. In fact, the Iraqis were apparently so serious about not getting back into the nuclear game that the equipment was up for sale.
More after the break...
Apparently, this guy was then "targeted" by the counterintelligence deparment and was accused of two offences (having sex with a female contact and redirecting money for assets to his own use). Of course, he denies all this -- but this may be another case of a CIA counterproliferation operative being "set up", a'la Plame. He was apparently dismissed in 2004
The article then goes on to point out the interesting synchronicity of the timing of his findings with the information from CIA and other sources (aluminium tubes, etc.) later used in making the case for the war.
Apparently, large parts of the filing remain classified -- including the agent's name, suggesting that he may have been part of another cover (separate from Plame).
This seems to be another example (coincident with the Bolton recess appointment) of how the Bush admin. supports those who support their world view and (more importantly) how they punish those who challenge that world view (even with -- those inconvenient -- facts)
